Moonshot Data Toolkit
The Moonshot Data Toolkit is designed to provide the 50 Afterschool State Networks engaged in the Million Girls Moonshot initiative an at-a-glance overview of Moonshot data collection tools.
PEAR’s Dimensions of Success (DoS) Resources.
An Implementation Partner of the Million Girls Moonshot, Partnerships in Education and Resilience (PEAR) supports data collection and visualization, quality improvement and Professional Development for the Moonshot’s Community of Practice. PEAR’ s Dimensions of Success (DoS) is a framework that defines key aspects of a quality STEM learning experience. DoS forms the backbone of a suite of tools and guides designed to help out-of-school-time (OST) programs improve the quality of their STEM offerings.
PEAR’s DoS framework can be used by OST educators, program leaders, researchers or others to identify, improve, and track the quality of STEM learning opportunities happening with youth with the goal of continuously improving the quality of STEM learning in OST.
All of PEAR’s tools and resources below are grounded in the framework outlined here.
Introduction to the DoS Framework.
All members of the Moonshot Community of Practice interested in learning more about program quality through the DoS framework’s 12 indicators can engage in a self-guided learning experience through PEARs DoS Portal.
Login to build your understanding of the framework.
All members of the Moonshot Community of Practice who are preparing to guide staff to plan and implement high-quality STEM should engage in a self-guided Program Planning Tool Training experience. A deeper experience than the framework introduction, the PPT training focuses on how facilitators can design or modify activities and prepare teaching strategies that deliver high-quality STEM on all 12 DoS dimensions. Login to the portal to access recorded videos, modules, and all PPT tools and resources that you can incorporate into any professional development series or community of practice.
DoS Program Planning Tool Training (PPT).
DoS Certification.
Select members of the Moonshot Community of Practice who are planning to Demonstrate Impact through data collection can engage in a virtual training and rigorous multi-step certification process to obtain credentials to collect, report and share program quality data. DoS certification is valid for two years. Persons becoming certified are expected to complete a minimum of two observations each year and offer their data through PEAR’s data dashboard.
Contact Andria Parrott directly if you are interested in becoming Dos Certified.
Any member of the Moonshot Community of Practice who is presently DoS certified- or anyone whose DoS certification has lapsed- can engage in a virtual and interactive recertification process to reinstate their credentials to collect, report and share program quality data for a 2-year period of time. DoS recertifications are open to anyone who has completed the initial certification process, and anyone becoming recertified is expected to complete a minimum of two observations and offer their data through PEAR’s data dashboard.
DoS Recertification.
The Dimensions of Success (DoS) is a framework that defines key aspects of a quality STEM learning experience. DoS forms the backbone of a suite of tools and guides designed to help out-of-school-time (OST) programs improve the quality of their STEM offerings. It was developed & studied with funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) by PEAR, along with partners Educational Testing Services (ETS) and Project Liftoff. The DoS suite includes an observation tool, a program planning tool, and a feedback & coaching guide. These tools allow researchers, practitioners, funders, and other stakeholders to track the quality of STEM learning opportunities and continuously improve their programs.
The Million Girls Moonshot team is available to help you navigate the best training pathway and/or ideal way to incorporate these resources in your ongoing Moonshot work.
