Celebrating National STEM/STEAM Day with the Panasonic Foundation, a New Champion of the Million Girls Moonshot

On November 8, 2021, National STEM/STEAM Day, eight female engineers from Panasonic volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows to lead a group of girls in a hands-on STEM education workshop focused on engineering design.

At STEM Next, we understand and elevate  the importance of STEM learning each and every day. National STEM/STEAM Day (November 8th) offers an opportunity to join with the community to shine a special spotlight on STEM activities and how we can all work together to inspire a new generation of leaders. This year, to celebrate, we teamed up with the Panasonic Foundation. A team of eight female engineers from Panasonic volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows near Reno, Nevada. During the afterschool program, the volunteers spoke with  a group of eight girls  about their career journeys, providing an opportunity for the group to hear firsthand what it’s like to be an engineer. After a meaningful Q&As, the Panasonic team let the group put their engineering skills to the test with a hands-on STEM activity. Our National STEM/STEAM Day celebration was full of STEM fun, learning and a one-of-a-kind, unforgettable afternoon for this group!

These activities are part of the Panasonic Foundation’s broader commitment to our Million Girls Moonshot initiative, which seeks to engage one million more girls in afterschool and summer STEM learning opportunities by 2025. Similarly aligned, a key mission of the Panasonic Foundation is to create gender equity in STEM by increasing access to STEM learning opportunities, which is why the Panasonic Foundation has pledged to contribute $1 million dollars over the next three years to the Moonshot. We are very excited to work alongside the foundation to reach this goal,  reimagine who can be an engineer and inspire career pathways into STEM fields.
