Meet Isabella
I am Isabella, a 17-year-old science, math, and research-loving high school student from Cleveland, Ohio, and the founder and CEO of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, The Stem Well. The Stem Well works to reduce the impact of cultural and socioeconomic disparities in the pediatric cancer prevention and care continuum. In the future, in addition to leading The Stem Well, I want to attend medical school and become a pediatric oncologist.
I understand first-hand the importance of after-school and summer STEM experiences and their role in disrupting and reversing alarming trends, particularly the underrepresentation of women in STEM. The impactful STEM programs I have participated in outside of school include the Pre-College Program at Harvard University, where I lived on campus during the summer of 2022 and completed a two-week college-level biology course called Introduction to Cancer. In addition, I attended the Perry Outreach Program (POP), a full-day immersive that encourages women to consider careers in engineering and orthopedic surgery. During POP, I performed mock orthopedic surgeries, conducted biomechanical experiments, and received guidance from women leading in engineering and medicine. I am honored to be a STEM equity and opportunity ambassador as a member of the 2023 Flight Crew.
