Illuminating the Future of Genomics: A Look Back at DNA Day 2024
With the summer reset in full effect, there is no better time to reflect on the incredible impact of the 2024 DNA Day Celebration. In collaboration with Illumina for the Future is Bright campaign, in and out of school educators, families, and students worldwide get curious about genomics throughout April. From DNA Extraction experiments to conversations with bioinformaticians, young people learn what is possible for the future.
With the help of Illumina, Carolina Biological Supply, and STEM Next’s Million Girls Moonshot community partners, we reached almost 45,000 students nationwide in just the month of April!
Students in Texas, California, Wisconsin, Nebraska, South Carolina, West Virginia, and more completed DNA extraction experiments with their peers. Other young people in New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, Washington, and Michigan spoke with Illumina professionals via Zoom.
The success of the 2024 DNA Day Celebration shows us how science learning thrives when it’s engaging, and connected to real-world impact. You can stay plugged into Illumina’s free resources year-round with:
DIY DNA extraction kits are great for afterschool and summer programs, classrooms, and fun at home;
Career Exploration content and conversation guides; and
Additional free activities about DNA and genomics at dnaday.org and DNAdecoded.
The Future is Bright, so let’s join Illumina and continue to champion #Genomics4All!
